Toronto Transit Commission Subway Station PA Systems Upgrade

The successful bidder supplied systems for two phases of this multi-year project (1991-1992). Several new pieces of equipment were designed by the Big Guy exclusively for the TTC Plant Dept., most notably the TTC Type II PA Switcher. Complete racks of amplifiers and control equipment were installed in sixty-one subway and RT stations. **
In 2009, TSA was engaged to build an additional twenty of the Type II Switcher, which received very favourable comments from the TTC maintenance crews (simple and reliable).

Slots at Georgian Downs, Barrie, ON

Working from a design by Engineering Harmonics, TSA was retained to design and supervise the installation of audio and video systems, to program the Biamp Audia DSP system and the Crestron system controlling it all. Responsibilities including system drawings and cabling lists, assistance and testing during installation, and initial programming. This project was done for Edcom Multimedia.

St Andrews Church, Brantford, ON

This historic church was devistated by fire in January 2006; only the shell remained intact. TSA was retained by the architects as consultant to design and assist in the implementation the audio/visual systems. The result is a multifunction space which meets the needs of the congregation and educational users. In addition to writing the specification, TSA did the programming for the Crestron lighting system and the Biamp audio systems.

Slots at Ajax Downs, Ajax, ON

Working from a design by Novita, again TSA was retained to design and supervise the installation of audio and video systems, to program the MediaMatrix NION DSP system and the Crestron system controlling it all. Responsibilities including system drawings and drafting, assistance and testing during installation, and on-going programming support. This project was also done for Edcom Multimedia.

Youngstown Convocation Centre, Youngstown OH

Working from an EASE design prepared by Jerry Placken, TSA was retained to design and supervise the installation of eight clusters of Community speakers, the MediaMatrix processing and Crest amplifiers to support them, as well as the paging system for this arena complex. Responsibilities including system CAD drawings and cabling lists, Nion and NexSys implementation and programming, and site supervision of Division 17. This project was another for Edcom Multimedia.

Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Science & Technology Centre
Saudi Arabia

When House of Kevin in Burlington, ON found out about his background in process control (PLCs), TSA was brought in to provide the "animation" methodolgy for seven of the technology displays prepared for this museum, including the Light Maze and the Wind Power Generation. No, the project did not require site work.

St Christopher's Church, Mississauga
St Joseph's Church, Hamilton

Recently completed sound system upgrades in these distinctive Catholic Churches. Architect Paul Bolland undertook a program of renovations with BD as the sound system designer and project coordinator. Everything was made to blend in as much as possible. The key was to give the priests the freedom to move about the sanctuary and nave without restriction. This was achieved in the design and by contractor JSGS Ltd.

City Council Chamber, Goderich

Design, and complete system installation and commissioning details for upgrade of Council Chamber audio facilities. Work was done in concert with project architects. Installation was executed in alloted three days by one installer. This project was done for Nationwide Audio Visual.

Metro Toronto Convention Centre Expansion

Design of the installation and preparation of all functional drawings, panel fabrication and detail drawings, and all cabling lists for the audio systems in the expansion of this facility. This included design of all panels, custom switcher cards and special assemblies. It also included writing the AMX programming to test the systems during installation. On behalf of Audiospec Inc. of Mississauga, to a design by Paoletti Associates (San Francisco).

Iceland, Mississauga

Design of and project coordination for the sound systems in this new four rink facility. Includes DSP sound processing and facilities for cable TV audio feeds. On behalf of Barrie Communications, TOA Canada and City of Mississauga.

Market Centre Theatre, Woodstock

Design of the audio, video and control systems, and supervision of the installation. Also links to outside facilities and participated in bid review. On behalf of The City of Woodstock.

Ecodeck at the CN Tower, Toronto

Design of the audio, video and control systems as part of the installation. Also planned the physical installation, including the projection screens and Skyfold doors. On behalf of First Vision, Scarborough.

Centennial College Radio / Television Arts Facilities, East York

Design of the radio portion, and consultant liaison for the audio and video installation of comprehensive teaching control rooms and studios at the new Carlaw Campus building, on behalf of Imagineering.

The Design Exchange, Toronto

Design of the audio, video, telephone and data infrastructures for this industry resource centre, and conceptualization and specification of future audio and video facilities, on behalf of Novita Limited.

Husky Injection Molding Systems, Bolton

Design and supervision of audio and video installation for comprehensive teaching lab and general purpose auditorium in the premises of this corporation, on behalf of David Harrison & Associates.

Gowling, Strathy & Henderson, Toronto

Design and installation of audio, video and teleconferencing facilities in two corporate boardrooms in new offices of this Toronto law firm. Project undertaken entirely by Theatre System Associates.

North York Performing Arts Centre

Design of the installation of audio and video facilities in the theatre systems for this complex of three theatres. Designs included special furniture items for consoles and related equipment. Specification by Robert Lorelli Associates. Designed for J-Mar Electronics, Toronto.

Richmond Hill Council Chamber

The Town of Richmond Hill moved into new municipal headquarters in 1993. Work included the design and supervision of the A/V installations in the Council Chamber and OMB hearing Room incorporating state-of-the-art audio and video systems. Specification by Novita Ltd. **

Centre Court - Sherway Gardens, Etobicoke

Design and supervision of the installation of a unique application by Jim Boutilier of Novita Ltd using professional sound system equipment and technology into a shopping mall special events area. The design required two custom switchers by designed by BD to permit the users to configure the court in five arrangements according to the venue. **

Cleary International Centre, Windsor

In Canadian Room West, group supervised by BD installed complete audio and video facilities in five meeting rooms and an Executive Presentation Theatre, which features a high power video projection and true surround sound system. Meeting rooms feature automatic mic mixing and zoned outputs. The group installed complete audio and video facilities in the Chrysler Theatre and the Convention Centre. The Convention Centre features automatic mixing and a BD designed PLC based room combining system. Design and project supervision by Brian Arnott Associates / Novita Ltd. and undertaken by J-Mar Electronics, Toronto in three phases.

The Sanderson Centre, Brantford

The City of Brantford undertook a major restoration of the Capitol Theatre, a turn-of-the-century Thomas Lamb designed theatre. The restoration included recovery of the decorative vaulted ceiling. The installation consisted of complete sound reinforcement and communications facilities for live theatre production. The specification was written by the Joiner-Rose Group but was modified by BD to accommodate the changing requirements of the building, the architect and the theatre management. This was particularly the case when an el fresco mural was uncovered where the loudspeakers were to be installed. **

Canadian Museum of Civilization, Ottawa/Hull

This project consisted of sound, intercommunications and video for a live/film theatre, installed to a specification written by Peter Mundie, Eng. of Montreal. **

** Many of these projects were design/build undertakings by the group headed by Bruce Dingwall at J-Mar Electronics Ltd. For others, there was competition to determine the contractor awarded the project. Frequently, enhancements were made to an existing design prior to installation, after discussion with the owners and the consultants.
